Honestly, I am going to tell you that this disappoints me. I did not vote for Mike Coffman for SOS. I voted for Ken Gordon, his Democratic opponent. But I seriously thought that overall, even if I disagree with Coffman, he was a good man who could be entrusted with this job. Which is a sacred duty due to how fundamental it is to the health of our country. At first, I thought, well, I need to hear compelling evidence before I make a judgement, but it seems as though there is some. This scandal has been going on for a month in this state. I haven't seen a diary here, but there are a few on Square State.
First, there is this little tidbit from Colorado Confidential.
Secretary Mike Coffman's repeated denials of prior knowledge that technology manager Dan Kopelman was engaged in partisan activities are quickly being shredded by documents released today by Colorado Citzens for Ethics in Government.
...
In a set of emails obtained by the ethics watchdog group through an open records request, Colorado Republican Hispanic Assembly chairman Gil Cisneros sent an email to Coffman's personal email address requesting a subscription to the Political Live Wires e-newsletter operated by Kopelman.
I would recommend going to Colorado Confidential, where the emails are posted to read them. Here's the link: http://www.coloradoconfidential.com/...
Another email is further down. An event that is sent to Mike Coffman's Government Email address from Dan Koppelman.
There is more on Square State. Coffman attempts to dissassociate himself from Koppelman.
Coffman's first steps were to disclaim any knowledge of Kopelman's political activities. Then there were the official steps to take control over the situation: taking the site down, reassigning Kopelman, starting an internal investigation, and bashing Kopelman in the press. In that manner, therefore, poor Dan Kopelman was thereby thrown under the bus.
...
Unfortunately for the current secretary of state, public disclosure records show that they very basis of the long Coffman-Kopelman relationship mirrors the heart of the controversy: since the mid-1990's Kopelman draws a salary as a public official working for Coffman, while also running a political consulting business working for Coffman.

I suggest further reading. This is pretty bad stuff. I will say, I hope Coffman does what is best for his office and for the state. Considering he was calling out the previous Secretary of State in Colorado (also a Republican) during 2006 for her special rules that she was instituting. It is disappointing.
